The Art of Living Foundation is one of the world's largest volunteer based,[non-primary source needed] humanitarian and educational Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO). It was founded in 1981 by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar (spiritual leader) with the vision of creating a stress-free, violence-free society. The Art of Living has reached out to over 300 million people in over 140 countries with its various programs’. The Foundation is working in special consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) of the United Nations. The International Association for Human Values is the sister NGO that HH Sri Sri Ravi Shankar founded, that focuses on the upliftment of human values at the grass roots level. Art of Living Foundation (AOLF) has its international headquarters in Bangalore, India at Veda Vignan Mahavidyapeeth or VVM campus (usually referred to as the Bangalore Ashram)and has regional centers in more than 140 countries.
